For instructors, forums and sites

Free electrician practice questions for your site, forum or class

Put an interactive NEC practice question on your site that changes every Monday, pin one question to a lesson, post it in a forum with the answer hidden, or print a handout for class. Free, no sign-up, and every question links back to our free 20-question practice test.

New every Monday

The weekly embed works through the whole set of original questions on its own. Nothing to update.

Answer, then learn

Readers pick an answer, see right or wrong at once, and get the worked solution with the code reference.

Forum-ready

Most forums block iframes, so every question also comes as XenForo, Discourse and Reddit posts with the answer behind a spoiler, plus plain text.

Classroom handout

Ten questions on US Letter with an answer key on its own page. Print it or save it as a PDF.

Moodle import

Each question exports in GIFT format for a Moodle question bank.

No tracking in the widget

No cookies, analytics or ad scripts, and it doesn't count views or answers.

Get the code

Choose a question, the colors and where it's going, then copy. Keep the SparkShift credit visible.

Pick one question to keep it the same for good, for example in a forum thread or a lesson page.

Colors

Where it goes

Paste into a block that puts code on the page itself, such as a WordPress Custom HTML block or a Squarespace Code Block. The frame grows to fit when the worked answer opens.

Free to use: the rules

  • You may embed these questions, post them one at a time in forums and course pages, import them into your own course, and copy the handout for your students, free, for commercial and non-commercial use.
  • Keep the SparkShift credit and link visible. Removing it ends your permission.
  • Don't sell the questions or republish the set as your own question bank, and don't suggest that SparkShift, NFPA, or any union or training program endorses your site.
  • You may reformat a question. If you change its wording, say that you changed it.
  • The questions are for study only, with no warranty. They are not field installation instructions, and readers should check the code edition their jurisdiction adopts.
  • NEC® and National Electrical Code® are registered trademarks of NFPA. SparkShift is not affiliated with NFPA and does not reproduce code text.

Questions

Which code edition are the questions written to?

They use 2023 NEC section numbers. Some states test on the 2020 or 2026 NEC, and section numbers can move between editions. Questions whose rule we know moved or changed in the 2026 NEC are left out of the embed. Each question shows its reference, so readers can check it against the edition their exam uses.

Are these real exam questions?

No. They're original practice questions written and reviewed by SparkShift, not taken from any state exam, and they're for study, not for field installation decisions.

Does the widget track my visitors?

It sets no cookies, loads no analytics or advertising scripts, and doesn't count views or answers. Like any web page it is loaded from our servers, which keep ordinary request logs. Links inside it open SparkShift in a new tab.

Can I put more than one on a page?

Yes. Pick a different question for each one; each code snippet only resizes its own frame.

My forum won't show the iframe. What now?

Use the XenForo, Discourse or Reddit version instead. Each carries the whole question with the answer hidden behind that forum's spoiler tag. Where there are no spoilers, such as Facebook groups or email, use the plain-text version and post the answer part as the first comment.

Why does WordPress remove the code?

WordPress only keeps HTML blocks for users who are allowed to post unfiltered HTML, such as administrators. Ask your site admin to add it, or link to the question instead.
